Flood waters have caused area roads and businesses to be closed. The Keokuk County USDA Service Center will remain closed due to flooding until further notice. The closure includes the Farm Service Agency and Natural Resource Conservation Service. If farmers need immediate assistance they are asked to go to an office in a neighboring county.
Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen advises gravel roads are soggy still, “Some of the roads that have been closed because of flood waters being over them, the waters have receded but the roads are not driveable yet. So if you a sign that says “Road Closed” but you don’t see any water, there is a reason that sign is still there, find a different route. Secondary roads [department] is waiting for things to dry out a bit before they can fix some of this stuff.” She adds that this is likely just the first round of flooding for the season.
The National Weather Service still has flood warnings in effect until further notice for the Iowa River at Columbus Junction, the Iowa River at Wapello, the Iowa River at Oakville, and the Cedar River at Conesville.
