The snow is finally gone, the weather is finally nice, and track and field season is finally here.
Tonight, schools from around the area will flock to Washington’s Case Field to compete in the Steve Roth Relays. KCII-area schools Columbus, Keota, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union will all be there, as well as Southeast Conference schools Fairfield, Fort Madison and Mount Pleasant, among others. Steve Roth, head Demon track coach and the coach the event is named for, says it takes a village to get such a high-scale meet up and running.
“[The volunteers] are the ones that make the meet go,” Roth said. “It’s all about keeping it moving. You don’t want kids standing around on a cool night; you want to keep them moving. It’s very important, and I do have great help. The help is very much appreciated.”
Tonight’s meet will begin with field events at 3:30, with the running events starting around 3:45.
