A trio of KCII area boys track and field teams took to the track Monday at West Burlington High School for the annual Falcon Relays.
The Washington boys finished as runners-up in the large school division with 106 team points. Mount Pleasant won the team title with 198 points. The Demons scored one event title on the night with the Washington Sprint Medley team of Cade Hennigan, Jacob Miller, Spencer Sotelo and Mitchell Driscoll leading the pack in a time of 1:40.02. Other top finishes for the Demons included a runner-up finish for Ethan Hunt in the 400, runner-up for Lincoln Kleese in the 110 hurdles, runner-up for the shuttle hurdle team of Kleese, Ben Schiefer, James Medrano and Hennigan, runner-up for the distance medley team of Cade Pouren, Luke Turner, Michael Kimball and Justin Simmering, and second place for the 4×400 team of Hunt, Driscoll, Simmering and Schiefer. Driscoll was third in the 200, Evan Horak was third in the 3200, the Washington 4×100 team of Hennigan, Miller, Sotelo and Turner were third, along with the Washington 4×200 team of Pouren, Brandon Dickel, Wyatt Stout and Trevor Quigley.
The Winfield-Mt. Union boys placed third in the small school division with their score of 94 points. Danville won the team title with 160. The Wolves had five championship events on the day with Brandon Snowden taking the title in the 100 with a time of 11.34 seconds. He was also runner-up in the 200. Dane Sweezer won the 110 hurdles in 17.92 seconds, Juanito Piper took gold in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.54. Noah Sparrow won gold in the 1600 in 5:23.62. The WMU sprint medley team of Christian Gerot, Dawson Bergthold, Snowden and Piper were also event champions in 1:43.47. Other top finishes for the Wolves included Talon Netwon second in the high jump, Brody Barton second in the 800 and a second place finish for the 4×100 team.
The Highland boys were sixth in the small school division with a score of 38 points. Top finishes for the Huskies included a second place for Connor Grinstead in the long jump, third for Zack Lasek in the shot put and discus and second for the Highland 4×200 team.
