Ground was broken on a 30,000-square foot shell building in Fairfield. The new building will be the latest addition to Fairfield’s 61-acre business district and industrial park. Shovels began digging just southeast of where Highway 1 and Highway 34 meet in Fairfield. In 2016, an agreement to develop the parcel was made between the Fairfield Economic Development Association, City of Fairfield, Northeast Power, Jefferson County, and Access Energy Cooperative. Since then, the team has been working to provide infrastructure to the site like water, sewer, and electricity. According to the FEDA, the goal is to attract business to Fairfield. Executive Director Joshua Laraby says they’ve received some interest but haven’t had the resources available to make it happen. Construction of the shell building is expected to be completed by September.
