The contract setting the price for meals for inmates at the Washington County Jail was tabled at Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting. County Attorney John Gish explained that the vendor wanted retroactive pay for the increased rates back to the start of the fiscal year, July 1st. However, the sheriff’s office had negotiated and eliminated the retroactive payment. The contract presented to the supervisors still had the back-pay listed, so the item was tabled until next week’s meeting. The cost per meal will be going from $4.91 to $4.99 next year and then $5.11 the following year. The cost is prorated for the number of inmates in the jail, so the rates will fall when there are 25 or more inmates. The contractor will also provide special meals for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. The contract runs through June 30, 2020.
