Area unemployment rates fell from January to February. Washington County’s rate went from 3.2% to 2.9%. Washington County is part of the Iowa City metropolitan statistical area, which increased by 200 jobs from January to February. From a year ago, the metro area has cut 1,700 jobs with losses in every industry including 700 in trade, transportation, and warehousing. Marshall County continues to have the highest unemployment rate in the state at 5.9%.
