The Washington Demon boys and Highland soccer teams meet Thursday to kick off the season for both clubs.

Washington is coming off of a season of renewed success that saw the program finish 2018 with a 9-7 record that included a five game winning streak. A final record over the .500 mark and a winning streak of that length were firsts for the program in more than a decade. The Demons will need to replace three of their four top scorers from a season ago who moved on through graduation. They do return Caleb Suchan for his senior season, he was second on the team last year with six goals, and led the Demons with seven assists. In goal, the Demons lost Thomas Zimmer who spent more than 780 minutes between the pipes a season ago but do return Ben Baughman who got valuable experience during his junior year. Overall, the Demons will be a young team this season, with a roster comprised of fewer than a handful of seniors.

Highland enters tonight’s match off of a season that saw them finish with one win in 12 matches. The Huskies return all but two of their players from a season ago including all four players that scored goals, led by Jordan Sosa and his four tallies returning for his senior season. The Huskies also bring back all three players who spent time in goal for them last year, led by senior Cory Stewart with his 600 minutes of time on the back line and 72% save percentage.

These two teams met twice a season ago with the Demons winning both matches by 9-0 and 5-1 scores. Action begins tonight at 5p.m. at Highland High School.
