Two Washington High School seniors performed at the Individual Event Speech All-State Festival. Logan Hanson and Riordan Lujano took the stage.
Lujano shares what scene he put together in the improvisation category, “You draw three characters and two situations. Then you have to choose two characters and one situation. Then you have three minutes to prepare, to think about what your scene is going to be, and then five minutes to perform. … [I had] attacked by a man-eating plant [with] a window washer and a cable repairman.” When asked if they made it out alive, he said, “One of them did.”
Hanson was selected for solo musical theater and performed “You Won’t Succeed on Broadway” from Spamalot with choreography, and the only prop permitted is a chair.
The festival was held at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Lujano and Hanson were two of eight Demons who received Division I ratings at the state speech contest earlier in the season.
