Getting food to those in need is one section of the work done by HACAP. HACAP stands for Hawkeye Area Community Action Program and serves Washington, Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, and Linn Counties. It is one of 18 community action agencies across Iowa. Supervisor Richard Young said in Washington County in February food boxes were distributed, “The value of those food boxes was $3,416.12.” Those 164 boxes went to 106 households, serving 248 individuals.
HACAP also provides a mobile food pantry that visits Brighton and Washington each month. It will be in Brighton from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday, and will then be in Washington that day from 1-2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church.
