A pair of area teams will square off on the soccer pitch in Riverside Monday when Mid-Prairie visits Highland.

This is the season opener for the Golden Hawks. They ended last year with a 7-6 overall record. Mid-Prairie returns their top two scorers from last year in Ashton VanWinkle and Zeus Fugate who combined for 27 goals, VanWinkle with 15 and Fugate with 12. Fugate also lead the team with eight assists. The Hawks bring back a pair of experienced goalkeepers in Beau Stutsman and Keaton Graber who combined for more than 650 minutes of time between the pipes last season. The Golden Hawks have scrimmaged Solon and Clear Creek Amana to prepare for the season.

Highland enters play with a 1-0 overall record after a stunning 3-2 win over Washington to open the season. In the match the Huskies were led by Owen Donovan with a pair of goals, one from Ramses Vergara and an assist each for Jordan Sosa and Cristian Arciga. These two teams met with Mid-Prairie scoring a 10-0 win.
