Residents are reminded to call 811 before doing any digging so utilities can be located. April is National Safe Digging Month. This step should be taken before any large projects, and also before installing a fence, planting a tree, or landscaping a yard. Iowa law requires that Iowa One Call at 811 needs to be contacted a minimum of two business days before digging. The requirement is to help prevent serious injuries, service disruptions, and costly repairs that can come when people strike an underground utility. The Iowa One Call center is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, just call 811.
