The first Spring Parent Academy held by Mid-Prairie was deemed a success. Learning Design Coach Glenda Seward describes Parent Academy as an opportunity for parents and teachers to come together and learn about some of the challenges and strategies of raising children in 2019. The event featured psychologists Dr. Jamie Kremswriter and Dr. Erin Oluffs, from the University of Iowa.
Seward deemed the night a success with, “well over 100 adults” in attendance Monday night. Seward says that this not only educates parents on relevant topics, but also familiarizes them with the staff at Mid-Prairie, “We feel like it is helping parents feel more comfortable seeking out help. Like if they have a question that they’re not sure who to turn to, since they’ve been at a parent academy they’ve met some school staff. They can put together a name and a face together, and then they’re more comfortable asking for help.”
The next Parent Academy will be held Monday, November 4th at Mid-Prairie High School with Dr. Lisa Strohman, who established the Digital Citizen Academy to help keep families safe from online dangers. A complimentary meal and child care will be provided.
