The Sigourney track teams competed at North Mahaska on Thursday night and the girls’ came home with a runner-up finish out of eight teams while the boys placed sixth.
The Savage girls tallied 120 points and Montezuma took home the title with 127.5. Summer Barthelman produced a lot of points including placing first in the 400m dash (1:01.78), first in the long jump (16’3’’), being the anchor of the champion 4x100m relay (55.05) along with Hannah Lucas, Sloane Magill, and Megan Stuhr. The senior also anchored the first place shuttle hurdle relay team (1:13.44) also including Magill, Rylee Goldman, and Heidi Clarahan. Stuhr had the other first place finish in the discus with a heave of 107’11’’.
The boys’ finished sixth with 81 points while Pella Christian won it all with 128.5. Mason Moore was a machine once again placing first in both the 1600m (5:11.34) and the 3200m (10:57. 53). No one leaped higher than Spencer Magill in the high jump clearing 6’0’’, Colton Schwab was second in the 400m dash (1:00.40), and Payton Schauf was second in the discus (149’5’’).
The Sigourney girls compete at the Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival in Iowa City today and the boys travel to Iowa Valley on Tuesday.
