A pair of area high school jazz bands participated in this year’s Iowa Jazz Championships. Jazz bands from Winfield-Mount Union and Mid-Prairie high schools made the trip to Ames. Neither team finished in the top eight. Earlier this season, both teams competed in the Southeast Iowa Band Association District Jazz Festival in Iowa City. The Wolves took second place in class 1A, and The Golden Hawks finished in first place in class 2A at the SEIBA Festival to qualify for the Iowa Jazz Championships. Winfield-Mount Union is led by Director Casey Dirksen and Mid-Prairie’s director is David Kunz.
