Saturday was a big day for the boys and girls soccer programs at Washington High School.

Playing in their only doubleheader of the year, both teams came away with victories over visiting Mediapolis. The Washington girls were a 6-2 winner, never trailing in the match, the Demons opened a lead of 4-0 before the Bullettes got on the board. After the match Washington head coach Pro Marcelino talked about the match. “I just thought that the girls pushed things hard. They played hard all the way through the end of the period. They had more communication and better passing.”

In the boys match it was the Demons that took a 1-0 victory. It was a defensive battle early with the game going to half scoreless. The Demons were able to break through in the 45th minute when Caleb Suchan beat the Bulldog keeper. After the match, Suchan talked about his day offensively. “My teammates were setting me up really well, I was getting a lot of good looks from them. They told me to keep shooting. On my goal, I went and followed the ball, I couldn’t see the goalie but I saw the far post so that’s what I shot for.”

That lone tally was enough for the Washington defense, led by Ben Baughman in goal as they made it stand up in the 1-0 win. After the day the Demon girls are 2-1 on the year, the Demon boys are 2-2.
