This week is National Library Week. The theme for this year’s Library Week is “Libraries = Strong Communities.” Washington Public Library Director Bryna Walker says it’s important to observe the week locally, “It’s important to host that and to acknowledge the every year because literacy is a part of every part of the community. Our world functions with reading, and writing, and exposure to the arts, and so it just brings more attention to libraries in general whether that be academic, public, or school. So yes, it’s a fun week and we’re thankful for our community partners who embrace that as well.” The Washington Public Library provides reading materials, events, meeting space, electronic reading, free music concerts, and more. National Library Week was first sponsored by the American Library Association in 1958.
