A Walk for Autism is being held in Washington. WCDC, Inc. is hosting the event this afternoon along the Kewash Nature Trail. It is the third annual Walk for Autism in Washington.

Autism spectrum disorder is defined by the Centers for Disease Control as “a group of developmental disabilities that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges.” The CDC data shows that an estimated one in 59 children are affected by an autism spectrum disorder and it is almost five times more common among boys than girls.

All proceeds from today’s walk will go to WCDC, Inc., which serves clients with disabilities with opportunities to live in and be productive members in the community. For each mile walked, participants will be given a raffle ticket for prizes. It is from 1-4 p.m. today and registration is $5. Kids five-years-old and under are free.
