The Washington boys’ track team had the best area finish at Mount Pleasant on Thursday night finishing second in the large class division.
The Demons claimed second with 107.5 points while the host Panthers ran away with the title having 157.5. Ethan Hunt nabbed first place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.76 seconds and the sprint medley team of Cade Hennigan, Jacob Miller, Mitchell Driscoll, and Hunt also won in 1:37.98. Other top finishes included Driscoll second in the 400m (50.84), Justin Simmering second in the 800m run (2:06.64), Spencer Sotelo second in the long jump (20’6’’), and Hennigan was third in the 110m hurdles (16.28).
Winfield-Mt. Union also attended and finished 11thout of 22 teams with 57 points, WACO was 20thwith 32, and Lone Tree was 22ndwith 21 points. The Wolves’ Brandon Snowden had another big day finishing first in the 100m (11.59) and 200m (23.41). The senior was also the anchor of the champion 4x100m relay team along with Brody Barton, Juanito Piper, and Dane Sweezer. The same four finished second in the 4x400m relay (3:45.98). WACO’s Colton Horak bested the whole field in the 110m hurdles (16.78) and the shuttle hurdle relay of Drew Kissell, Elijah McGohan, Nik Coble, and Horak placed second (1:09.93). Alberto Cortes led Lone Tree with a third place finish in the 800m (2:16.39) and Cale Yoder was fifth in the shot put (42’1’’).
