The people who answer the phone when you call 911 are being honored this week.
This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and is a time to thank those who answer emergency calls, dispatch emergency personnel and equipment, and those who provide life-saving assistance to people across the country. Washington County has 10 telecommunicators with a combined experience of over 100 years answering calls. At the recent Iowa Chapter of the APCO awards banquet assistant supervisor Teresa Todd received a 25 years of service milestone award. Remember to thank those who help behind the scenes.
