A deputy will be added to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. At Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting, the three supervisors in attendance all voted in support of the measure. Sheriff Jared Schneider explained that the plan was to add another deputy in the next fiscal year but with an upcoming retirement they’d like to get training started. Supervisor Jack Seward said it made sense to be proactive, “I think it makes sense not being shorthanded when the time comes to cover that retirement, so staying ahead of the game.” By having the new deputy training before the retirement, Schneider said it will help prevent the cause for overtime hours for other staff members later on.

Schendier said the plan will then be to add another deputy at the end of the summer. Washington County has 16 deputies. The supervisors also approved the hiring of Tyler Kleese, who will start in May at $22.87 per hour.
