In not ideal conditions the annual Ekstrand Relays happened in Wayland on Thursday night and a few area teams came away with a team title.

The Washington boys’ team won the Class A division with 169 points while Lone Tree won the B division with 119 points. Other class B scores included WACO fourth with 79.5 points, Winfield-Mt. Union seventh with 33, Highland eighth with 30, and IMS ninth with 12. Just missing out on qualifying for the Drake Relays, Washington senior Mitchell Driscoll got his revenge winning the 100m (11.90), 200m (23.75), and 400m (52.55). Other victorious Demons included Cade Hennigan in the 110m hurdles (16.29), Kasen Bailey in the high jump (5’8’’), Spencer Sotelo in long jump (19’7’’), 4x100m (45.86), and the sprint medley relay (1:39.58). Avery Knock had a big day for Lone Tree winning the 100m (12.13) and 200m (24.56). The distance medley (4:00.86) and Cale Yoder in the shot put (43’.5’’) were also title events for the Lions. WACO’s Colton Horak claimed first place in the 110m hurdles (16.06) and 400m hurdles (58.71). Noah Sparrow gave WMU a championship event winning the 3200m run (11:27.60), Highland’s Trey Lasek won the 400m dash (54.63), and IMS’ Colby Harris finished fourth in the 100m (12.92) while Aaron Hershberger was fourth in the 400m (59.23).

On the girls’ side Washington placed second in the Class A division with 112 points while class B scores included WACO with 74 points to place third, WMU was fourth with 64, Lone Tree fifth with 56, IMS sixth with 43, Sigourney seventh with 38, and Highland ninth with 35 points. The Demons had four first place events including Jenah Greiner in the 100m (13.51), Kelsey Pacha in the 100m hurdles (17.17), Isabel Bailey in the long jump (15’7’’), and the 4x400m relay (4:34.97). WACO’s Grace Conwell claimed a title in the 400m hurdles (1:13.82). The 4x100m (55.25), 4x200m (2:00.15), and shuttle hurdle relay (1:14.97) also won for the Warriors. WMU’s Anna Hudson won the shot put (34’8’’) along with the 4x400m (4:39.26), Lone Tree’s Holley Johnson won the 100m hurdles (17.92), IMS’ Suzanna Yoder nabbed first place in the 400m (1:04.46), Heidi Clarahan first in the long jump (13’11.25’’) for Sigourney, and Highland’s Alli Brand was third in the 3000m (13:34.8) while Kaylee Rath was third in the discus (82’6’’).
