The Washington middle school track teams had another busy week of competition.

The 8th grade boys’ team had a big day at the Fort Madison Invitational on Monday placing first out of six teams with 217.5 points to beat out second place Mount Pleasant’s 148.5. The Demons had nine first place finishes including Ethan Patterson winning the 100m, 200m, 400m, and high jump. His leap of 6’1’’ is a new school record for the high jump. Other first place events included Braydent Hartman in the shot put, Julian Marcelino in the 800m, the 4x100m, 4x800m, and sprint medley relay. The 7th grade boys’ team placed fourth at the same event and Lukus Rickey took home the title in the shot put. Second place finishes included Teague Mayer in the shot put, the 4x100m, 4x200m, sprint medley, and distance medley relay.

That same day, the girls’ teams traveled to Fairfield with the 8th graders finishing second out of seven teams and the 7th graders in third. First place events for the 8th grade team included Makenna Conrad in the long jump and 400m, Alex Murphy in the shot put, Grace Voss in the 800m, Molly Klinzman in the 100m hurdles, the sprint medley, and 4x800m relay team. The 4x100m and 4x400m relay won for the 7th grade team. Second place finishes included Rylee Libe in the discus, and Audrey Anderson in the long jump and the shuttle hurdle relay.
