A 25-year agreement for the care of the McKain’s River Access Area between the Department of Natural Resources and Washington County was approved Tuesday. Washington County Conservation Director Zach Rozmus explained it’s the exact same agreement as the previous one held between the two parties set to expire, “So the DNR, in all honesty, the agreement essentially outlines that they have access to it if they want to do a study, or if they wanted to access the river at that point, no different than the public. They still own the property. But what we do for maintenance purposes is really just clean off the boat ramp. If it came to a point where it could get flooding it gets sediment on the boat ramp. And then on occasion, like this year for example we might have to put gravel down on the drive.” The county conservation department will mow approximately a quarter of an acre, clean the latrine, and clean the boat ramp when needed. The area is about 10 acres, including the river and timber. It is located north of Lake Darling State Park.
