The Mid-Prairie boys and girls track teams have a long road trip ahead Thursday when they travel to Camanche for the annual River Valley Conference Track Championship meet.
Both teams were in action Monday at the annual Highland Invitational. The Mid-Prairie girls brought home the team title behind five event titles including Mitzi Evans in the 800 in a meet record time. Marie Hostetler in the 3000 with a meet record time. The 4×100 team of Amber Swart, Maddie Edgington and Mitzi and Abbagail Evans were winners in a meet record time. It was a meet record and a win for the sprint medley team of Mitzi and Abbagail Evans, Maddie Edgington and Amber Swart while Kessa Jones took home the title in the 400 hurdles. The Golden Hawks finished fourth as a team at last year’s meet, tallying 92 points.
At Highland on Monday, the Mid-Prairie boys were team runners-up behind Tipton with 135 points to the Tigers 139. Mid-Prairie had five event champions on the night with Elmir Ganibegovic winning the 200, Brad Tornow the 800, Jack Baker the shot put and discus and the 4×200 team of Clarke Latchem, Elmir Ganibegovic, Quinn Schmidt and Grant Boyse getting the win. The Golden Hawks are looking to defend their 2018 RVC Championship which they won with 123 points over Northeast Goose Lake and West Liberty who finished with 103. Joining the Golden Hawks tonight will be Bellevue, Northeast Goose Lake, Camanche, Anamosa, Cascade, Monticello, Iowa City Regina, West Branch, West Liberty, Wilton, North Cedar, Durant and Tipton. Action begins at 4:30 at Camanche High School.
