The South Iowa Cedar League track meet was finally able to take place on Monday in New Sharon and Sigourney had a pair of top five overall finishes.
The Savage girls finished in third with 90 points while Belle Plaine seized the title with 122. Summer Barthelman won a conference championship in the 200m (26.08), long jump (16’4’’), and being the anchor leg of the victorious shuttle hurdle relay team (1:08.63) along with Heidi Clarahan, Rylee Goldman, and Sloane Magill. The 4x100m relay team of Magill, Goldman, Clarahan, and Hannah Lucas also came in first for the Savages (54.50). Third place finishes include Magill in the 100m hurdles (17.10), Goldman in the 400m hurdle (1:17.20), Megan Stuhr in the discus (100’11’’), and Kaylee Weber in the shot put (32’9’’). Keota’s Jill Schulte finished 10th in the long jump (14’1.5’’).
The Sigourney boys’ finished fourth with 77.5 points and Lynnville-Sully won it all with 123. The Savages had two championship events including Payton Schauf in the discus (145’0’’) and Spencer Magill in the high jump (6’0’’). Other top finishes included Mason Moore second in the 1600m (5:05.73) and third in the 3200m (11:31.40); Schauf second in the shot put (41’11.5’’); and Mac Conrad third in the same event (41’2.75’’). Keota placed 11th with 34 points. Justin Moeller won the long jump (20’0.5’’) and the distance medley relay of JD Stout, Sam Sieren, Wyatt Sieren, and Moeller also placed first (3:48.32). Sieren was third in the 200m (24.14) and the 4x200m relay placed fifth (1:41.42).
Sigourney will host a state-qualifying meet with Keota participating on Thursday.
