Every Shot Matters. That mantra came in handy for the Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ golf team on Monday, as they crowned themselves Southeast Iowa Super Conference champs after a one stroke win in Fort Madison.

The 18-hole conference meet saw WMU and Van Buren go back and forth with the Wolves edging the Warriors by the slightest of margins 345-346. A 39-stroke back nine helped Nolan Ross to a third place finish with a 79 total. Matt Briggs from Notre Dame won the individual title with 76. Other scores for the victorious Wolves included Jared Kadel with 83 to finish fifth, Graham Hagge with 86 in 10th, and Noah Freeman with 97 in 29th.

Columbus Community finished seventh out of 13 teams with 396 strokes. Evan Rees shot a 94 to place 22nd and Robert Coil was right behind with 95 in 27th. Highland nabbed 11th place with 463 strokes and Jack Baker led them with 104. Lone Tree rounded out the teams in 13th with 479 strokes. Corey Kruger led the Lions with 113.

Each team will hit the links again on Friday for sectionals.
