Days like Monday on the golf course do not get much better than what Dustin Haines experienced. The Sigourney senior not only blew by the entire South Iowa Cedar League competition in the conference meet but he catapulted the Savages to a league championship as well.

Haines shot a 73 in the 18-hole meet at Oakland Acres in Grinnell to best the entire field by six strokes. That was more than enough to push the Savages to the top with a final tally of 335 strokes while Iowa Valley came in second with 348. Other scores for Sigourney included Nick Goad with 84 to place seventh, Josh Mohr with 86 to finish ninth, and Ian Terfehn placed 17th with 92. The Keota boys placed eighth out of 11 teams with 393 strokes. Eagle scores included Luke Hammen placing 16th with 91, Colten Clarahan 98, Max Johnson 100, Branden Hyman 104, and Drew Sieren 104.

On the girls’ side Sigourney placed seventh with 469 and Iowa Valley seized top honors with 398. Madison Schwenke shot an even 100 to place ninth overall. Other scores included Lily Schmidt 118, Sidney Morse 119, and Corinne Donald 132. Keota did not have enough for a team score but Lauren Imhoff shot a 130 and Lindsey Imhoff had 143.

Both boys’ teams compete at New London on Friday for sectionals and the girls compete in the first round of regionals on Monday. Keota travels to Fort Madison and Sigourney heads to North English.
