New London is the site of one of 16 class 1A sectional golf tournaments today and a half dozen KCII area teams are vying to advance to next week’s district tournament.

Attending today’s meet are Winfield-Mt. Union, Sigourney, Lone Tree, Iowa Mennonite School, Keota and Highland. The Wolves are entering play off of a Southeast Iowa Superconference championship earlier this week in Ft. Madison where they edged Van Buren by one shot with a team score of 345. The Wolves are seeded third in the sectional with a team average of 352 per 18 holes. Top player by the numbers for WMU is Jarod Kadel, he is fourth in the sectional with his 18 hole average of 82.

Sigourney also enters the postseason with momentum after a South Iowa Cedar League Championship this week. The Savages claimed the conference title for the second straight season with a team score of 335, beating second place Iowa Valley by 13 shots. Dustin Haines took the individual conference title with his low round of 73. On the season the Savages have a 335 average per 18 holes, best in the sectional with Haines round of 73 also topping the sectional.

The Keota Eagles come into today off of an eighth place finish at the SICL meet. They were led by Luke Hammen 16th overall with a 91. On the year the Eagles have a 379 average per 18 holes with Hammen’s 88 leading the way.

Iowa Mennonite School was sixth at the Superconference meet with their team score of 385 with Trevor Leyden firing a team best 89. For the year, IMS has a 384 average per 18 with Leyden leading the squad at an 83 average.

The Highland Huskies were 11th at the Superconference meet with a team score of 463. Highland was led by Jack Baker’s 104.

Lone Tree was 13th at the Superconference meet with a 479, led by Cory Krueger’s 113. Those six teams will be joined by Holy Trinity and New London. Action begins at 10a.m. at Deerwood Golf Course in New London.
