After a postponement on Thursday, three KCII area boys and girls track teams are ready to travel north Friday for their state qualifier meet.
Iowa Mennonite School, Highland and Lone Tree will participate in the class 1A Central City site. Only the event champion is guaranteed a trip to state while other athletes will have to wait to see if they are performance qualifiers. On the girls side of the numbers Highland has three top seeds including Emily Yahnke in the long jump at 17’2.5″, the 4×100 team of Sarah Schneider, Aly Stokes, Kristy Thomann and Emily Yahnke in 52.41 seconds and that same group in the 4×200 with their time of 1:50.97. Lone Tree has one top seed with Holley Johnson leading the 400 hurdles with her time of 1:12.63. IMS has Suzanna Yoder seeded third in both the 100 and 400m dashes.
On the boys side Brady Dauber is the lone top seed from the area. The Lone Tree long jumper has cleared a district best distance of 21’11”. Other favorites from area teams include Zack Lasek for Highland second in the discus and Aaron Hershberger of IMS eighth in the 110 hurdles. Joining the Lions, Huskies and IMS at Central City will be Alburnett, Calamus-Wheatland, Central City, East Buchanan, Easton Valley, Lisbon, Maquoketa Valley, Bellevue Marquette, Midland, Prince of Peace and Springville.
