Keep regulations in mind to stay safe and avoid fines during open burn season. Kalona City Ordinance says that open burning is only allowed in April, May, October, and November on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. During these times, fires must be at least 50 feet from the closest structure. It is prohibited to have to use burn barrels in the city of Kalona. City Code also states that there should always be a water hose at a reachable distance in case of emergencies.
