It was a rough draw for a pair of area boys soccer teams in the Southeast Iowa Superconference tournament held over the weekend.
The IMS boys opened the tournament as the two seed but were upset by the seventh seeded Danville Bears by a 3-2 score. IMS took an early lead with Jorge Canchola connecting with Louis Ettiene in the 12th minute to put IMS up 1-0. The Bears tallied twice before half, scoring in the 22nd minute and the 39th to take a 2-1 lead into the break. In the second half, things stayed that way until late when IMS began to push up to try to find the equalizer. The Bears scored on a counter attack to go up 3-1. Drew Blauvelt pulled IMS within 3-2 in the 64th minute but it wasn’t enough. With the loss, IMS falls to 8-4 and will be in action Monday against the Washington Demons for senior night. The Columbus boys were knocked out of the first round of the conference tournament by the Central Lee Hawks in a 5-2 match. Columbus now stands at 5-7 on the season as they get ready for West Liberty tonight.
