A project to improve security at the Washington County Courthouse and other county buildings came in more than $140,000 over the estimate. The county security system, to include video surveillance equipment was estimated and budgeted at $550,000 but the lowest of the three bids was $693,000. County Attorney John Gish recommended the supervisors revise the ask and seek new bids, “The project should probably be amended or changed so that it isn’t so expensive to the county. And so what the thinking is, based on my advice and recommendations, is that the RFP should be amended and then resubmitted for bids for all three or others to submit new bids on the changed project outline.” The new packages will list out alternates with the main focus being in the courthouse and jail. The cost to revise the original request is $2,250. The bid letting date for the new specifications is June 13th and the public hearing will be June 18th.
