Three members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team were on hand Thursday night as severe weather rolled through southeast Iowa.
Just after 9p.m. the Severe Weather Action Team took the air for a severe thunderstorm warning that was issued until 9:45p.m. for the northern portion of Washington County. This warning was then extended to 10:30 for the threat of strong winds, hail and heavy rainfall in the northeastern part of the county. In Iowa City, 62-mile-per-hour wind gusts were reported at the airport, with 70-80 mile per hour wind gusts reported near Williamsburg. Severe level wind gusts were also reported near Frytown, Lone Tree, and North Liberty. Nearly 3,000 Alliant Energy customers were reported to be without power in Iowa and Powesheik counties. The one to count on for today’s up to the minute severe weather coverage is AM and FM KCII.
