Several KCII area athletes left their mark at day one of the State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines on Thursday.

Highland’s Emily Yahnke garnered a silver medal in the class 1A long jump with a leap of 17’4’’ and she also qualified for the finals in the 100m dash placing seventh in the preliminary round with a time of 12.95 seconds. Winfield-Mt. Union’s Brandon Snowden also turned some heads having the fastest time in the prelims for the boys 100m (11.10) and the senior was also fourth in the 200m (22.68) to qualify for the finals. The Wolves’ Anna Hudson had the 14th longest heave in the shot put (36’4.5’’). Summer Barthelman of Sigourney put in her normal day’s work placing third in the 400m final (58.14) and fifth in the long jump (16’8’’). Other events included Highland’s Aly Stokes 13th in the long jump (15’7.25’’) and Trey Lasek 17th in the 400m (52.14); Justin Moeller received a medal for Keota in the long jump placing eighth (20’5.25’’); WACO’s boys shuttle hurdle relay team placed 17th (1:05.28); Sigourney’s Payton Schauf was 10th in the shot put; and Lone Tree’s Cale Yoder was 22nd in the same event (43’3.25’’).
