The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls track and field teams opened the 2019 state track meet Thursday in Des Moines.

The Mid-Prairie girls struck gold in the first event of the day with Marie Hostetler winning the 3000 by more than 25 seconds over her nearest competitor with a time of 10:12.89. Other results for the Mid-Prairie girls included the 4×800 team of Angelina and Abbigail Evans, Moriah Brase and Kate Cavanagh taking ninth. The Mid-Prairie boys had their 4×800 team of Quinn Schmidt, Brad Tornow, Miles Burrows and Justin Schwartz finish in sixth.
