A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Washington County at 6:40 a.m. Friday. Three members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought live coverage of the storm until it left the area and the warning expired at 7:30 a.m. Heavy rainfall, lightning, and thunder moved across the area. According to a trained weather spotter, Brighton received two inches of rain.

Locations impacted included Fairfield, Washington, Winfield, Wayland, Brighton, Richland,
Ainsworth, Libertyville, Crawfordsville, Maharishi Vedic City, Olds, Packwood, Pleasant Plain, Coppock, Abingdon, Washington Airport, Germanville, Jefferson County Park, Lake Darling State Park and Swedesburg.

Alliant Energy had some power outages including 170 near Rubio.

Thursday night a thunderstorm warning was issued just after 9 p.m. until 9:45 p.m. for the northern portion of Washington County. This warning was then extended to 10:30 for the threat of strong winds, hail and heavy rainfall in the northeastern part of the county. In Iowa City, 62-mile-per-hour wind gusts were reported at the airport, with 70-80 mile per hour wind gusts reported near Williamsburg. There was a wind gust of 86 miles per hour near River Junction. Severe level wind gusts were also reported near Frytown, Lone Tree, and North Liberty. Nearly 3,000 Alliant Energy customers were reported to be without power in Iowa and Powesheik counties.
