A flood warning is in effect for Kalona until mid-week following heavy rain. The National Weather Service has issued the flood warning for the English River at Kalona until Wednesday. Flood stage there is 14 feet, and Sunday it was at 17.6 feet and falling. The water has flooded agricultural land. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen reminds area residents that if they encounter a water covered roadway to turn around, don’t drown, “If there’s ever standing water, don’t go into it on foot or in your vehicle. Another thing is not only can it wash you and your vehicle away, the road underneath that is seriously … could be compromised. We’ve seen a lot of that in the floods out on the western side of Iowa, there are roads that are gone.”
Flood warnings are also in effect for the Cedar River near Conesville, the Iowa River at Wapello, and the Iowa River at Oakville. Also, minor flooding is forecast for the Iowa River near Lone Tree. More rain is expected in the area Tuesday, listen to KCII for weather updates.
