Iowa’s businesses added jobs in April and the unemployment rate held steady at 2.4%. According to Iowa Workforce Development, April was the first time this year that businesses added jobs in the state, increasing by 4,700 jobs. Since last April, manufacturing has led in all sectors in annual growth by adding 7,700 jobs. The state’s jobless rate was 2.6% a year ago. Flooding in western Iowa in March had little impact on overall job totals in April, but the full impact on the economy will be seen as time goes on. The total number of working Iowans in April was 1.67 million, 4,600 higher than March and 30,100 higher than a year ago.
