
The No. 15 ranked Iowa Mennonite School boys soccer team will take the pitch Wednesday night at Solon High School against Clarke of Osceola in the semifinal round of the class 1A substate playoffs.
IMS advanced through round one with a 5-0 win over Grand View Baptist on Monday behind a Louis Etienne hat trick and goals from Toby Chen and Jacob Boller. On the season Etienne is seventh in class 1A with 25 goals scored. Boller leads IMS with eight assists. In goal Blake Bontrager has made 65 saves with an 82% save percentage.
Clarke of Osceola enters the match after a thrilling 3-2 double overtime win over No. 13 Chariton on Monday. The Indians had goals in the match from Brian Avalos and a pair from Jordy Mendez. On the season Mendez is the team leader with seven goals. Avalos leads Clarke with seven assists. In goal, Zane Heart has 37 saves and a 71% save percentage. The winner of tonight’s match advances to Saturday’s substate final at Solon against the winner of No. 3 Solon and Pella Christian. Action begins tonight at 5p.m. at Spartan Stadium.
