The Sigourney softball season got started on the right note Monday when they defeated English Valleys 5-3 on opening night.
The Savages pushed across a pair of runs in the first and kept the pressure on by tacking on runs in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth frames. English Valleys stuck around for a while scoring in three of the first four innings but the bats went cold to close the game. Jordan VanEe helped herself in the circle by having a two RBI double. Hannah Lucas went 2-for-4 and one run knocked in that paced a Savage offense that managed eight hits. VanEe was the winning pitcher tossing all seven innings giving up three runs on four hits and striking out 10.
Sigourney is 1-0 and travel to Tri-County tonight.
