sigourney-3

Day one of the 2019 state boys golf tournament is finally here and a few KCII area athletes will hit the links for the class 1A meet in Newton.

Sigourney qualified as a team by placing first last week at districts in Riverside. The Savages average 341 strokes for 18-holes and are led by Dustin Haines’ 76 average. Winfield-Mt. Union’s Jarod Kadel will be participating as an individual and he has an 84 average. Head Coach of the Savages Zach Tremmel highlights one hole in particular that is tricky. “The 11thhole is something that I have never seen before. They have a creek that runs right down the middle of the fairway. In previous state meets a lot of players have hit double-digits on that hole so we have to limit the damage.”

Tee time for the first day of two gets underway at 10:30 a.m. this morning at Westwood Golf Course in Newton.
