midprairie-3

Thursday the Mid-Prairie softball team stepped on the diamond for the first time in 2019, hosting West Liberty for a River Valley Conference doubleheader at Carr, Vincent, Gould Field in Kalona.

The Comets took game one by a 12-2 count and grabbed game two 5-2. It was Mid-Prairie that got up early in the first game, pushing across a pair in their first at bat but the Comets would score 12 unanswered including three in the second, four in the fifth and five in the seventh to secure the win.

In game two, pitching and defense dominated the first three innings but West Liberty broke through with two in the top of the fourth. Mid-Prairie answered with one in the bottom half to cut the lead to 2-1 but the Comets scored single runs in each of their last three times up and that proved to be enough with the Hawks mustering just one run in the sixth the rest of the way. With the losses, Mid-Prairie is now 0-2 on the year and will next be in action Friday when they travel to Mount Vernon. You can hear all of the action between the Golden Hawks and the Mustangs live on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com, beginning with the Washington HyVee pregame show at 6p.m. and first pitch at 6:30 from Mount Vernon.
