A tornado warning was issued for northern Washington County, Iowa County, Keokuk County and Johnson County. The warning from the National Weather Service began at 6:18 p.m. and ended for Washington County at about 6:35 p.m. The tornado warning remained for Johnson County. Tornadoes north of Kalona and near Hills were reported by trained weather spotters at about 6:45 p.m. At about 6:55 p.m. the National Weather Service had law enforcement confirming a tornado near Iowa City and University Heights. A tornado watch remains in effect for Washington County, as well as Iowa, Henry, Johnson, Jefferson, Keokuk, and Lee Counties until midnight. Four members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought coverage of the storm and had the power gone out, KCII would have stayed on the air with our emergency back up generators.

UPDATE: Tornado warning continues for East Central Johnson, Northeastern Muscatine, Southwestern Cedar Counties until 7:45 p.m.
