The Class of 2019 will receive their diplomas at Washington High School Sunday. This year’s class has 129 graduating members. Valedictorian will be announced at the ceremony. Seniors received special awards and recognitions for the work they’ve put in over the last four years in academics, athletics, drama, art, music, and civic organizations.

Science teacher Kurt Trout said he had one last lesson for this year’s class of seniors. He told them to look around the room, to the family members who helped them get to this point. Trout then explained that earlier this year his dad passed away and he wishes he could say ‘Thank you’ one more time, “And the biggest regret is I never got a chance to tell him one more time, ‘Thank you, Dad.’ Take that opportunity tonight, take it tonight at the dinner table, take it tomorrow morning, take it whenever you got it, because the opportunities go away. My last lesson to you guys, stay focused here, my last lesson to you guys is this – tell them. It’s going to be awkward, it’s going to be crazy when you haven’t told them, but never miss that opportunity to tell them one more time, ‘Thank you.'” The three student speakers for commencement were announced, they will include Carly Burlingame, Jason Huertero, and Meghan Newman. The annual commencement ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the varsity gym.
