Representative Joe Mitchell has been invited to a leadership training program designed for new Midwestern lawmakers. Mitchell was one of 37 legislators selected to attend the 25th annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development that highlights some of the challenges new lawmakers may face when stepping into their new role. The institute is headquartered in Illinois and will take place the second week in August.
Mitchell is looking forward to the new learning opportunity, “I’ll be going to several legislative conferences. I’ll be going to one for legislators specifically in the Midwest to figure out different strategies other states around us have used to push through good legislation. I’ll use several different seminars to try and figure out the best ways we can help our state by using the knowledge of other people from around the midwest. I’m really looking forward to this.”
The institute is offered to new state legislators from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Since 1995, 840 bipartisan lawmakers have taken part in the Bowhay Institute.
