Soon Greg Goodman will sign off from his last shift as Washington Police Chief. A retirement reception was held for Goodman Friday afternoon at the Washington Public Library. After 34 years with the department, Goodman will be retiring May 31st. He thanked all of those in attendance and said the last 34 years have gone by quickly, “I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve enjoyed the people I work with. The public is great. I think the department is going to go forward and do great things, so I’m excited about that. So, thank everybody, I appreciate it.” Goodman was presented a plaque from Mayor Jaron Rosien and City Administrator Brent Hinson, along with a certificate from Iowa State Senator Kevin Kinney. The city hired Jim Lester to take over the position. He began in Washington May 20th, and most recently was a sheriff’s deputy and emergency management coordinator in Wright County.
