It was a successful road trip for the Winfield-Mt. Union softball team on Friday night, as they traveled to Cardinal and had the 7-1 upper hand.
The Comets struck first pushing across a run in the first but that was all they were going to manage against WMU pitcher Madie Anderson. Fresh off of a 19-strikeout outing earlier in the week, the sophomore had an encore performance mowing down 16 Comet batters and only giving up two hits in the win. The Wolves’ offense did all of their damage in the middle innings plating four runs in the third, one in the fourth, and two more in the fifth. Molly Miller and Keetyn Townsley each had two hits and a pair of RBI.
WMU softball moves to 2-1 on the young season and host Wapello tomorrow.
