The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team was handed a defeat in their first road trip of the year Friday at No. 10 Mount Vernon 14-4. In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, it was the Hawks who got on the board first in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by Cassidy Rourke. From there the Mount Vernon offense took over against Mid-Prairie pitchers Abbi Patterson and Cassidy Rourke, scoring in every inning. Eventually, the Mustangs would grow the lead to 12-2 going to the top of the fifth. In that frame Rourke went yard again, this time with a teammate on to pull the Hawks within 12-4 but, Mount Vernon would respond with two more to put the game out of reach. Rourke led the Hawks with a two for three night, three RBI and a pair of home runs. With the loss the Hawks are now 0-3 on the year.
