The Mid-Prairie baseball and softball teams take a joint road trip Tuesday when they travel to Lowden to take on the North Cedar Knights.
The Golden Hawk baseball team is 3-2 on the year after a win over Keokuk and a split with West Liberty in a doubleheader last week. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Brody Miller and his four for seven start at the plate, while Cale Robertson has the team lead with four RBI. On the hill, Brad Tornow and Keegan Gingerich are both 1-0. Tornow hasn’t given up a run and struck out 11 in his first start of the year against Keokuk.
North Cedar comes in with an overall record of 0-2. The Knights were swept by Bellevue on the road 9-5 and 14-4 in their first action of the season. Tyler Jackson, Devon Willis and Ethan Sahr are all hitting .500 on the season. Tyler Thurston has a pair of RBI to lead the Knights. On the mound Sahr has been best, working four innings with an 0-1 record, 3.50 ERA and five Ks. These two teams met a year ago with Mid-Prairie scoring an 11-1 win.
On the softball diamond the Golden Hawks are winless on the young season, coming into play with an 0-3 overall record. Last time out they were beaten at Mount Vernon 14-4 in five innings. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Rylee Vercande hitting .600. Cassidy Rourke is hitting .500 with three home runs and four RBI on the season. In the circle, Rourke has thrown nine innings with an 8.56 ERA and three strikeouts.
North Cedar is 4-1 on the year, losing 3-0 to Vinton Shellsburg last time out. On the season the Knights are led by Alyssa Barnhart and her .600 average, Kassidie Galloway has nine RBI. In the circle Alyssa Hefflefinger is 2-1 with a 0.88 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 16 innings. These two teams met last year in Kalona with the Knights taking a 9-5 win. Action in both games begins tonight at 7:30 in Lowden City Park.
