Designs of what the Shiloh Church property could evolve into will be put together this week.

Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh informed the city council that beginning this week, RDG Planning and Design will be on-site to start putting ideas onto paper. Schlabaugh says they will use the information that’s been gathered from the last few weeks from public input and suggestions from the special committee that was put together to represent area entities.

According to Schlabaugh, it’s one thing to be able to tell people about the potential, but another to be able to show them, “Until we get some renderings, until we get some layouts, where streets could be, the number of houses, how it could look, and so forth, it’s hard. So [RDG] will start to put that into place with the suggestions and comments we’ve garnered so far. They’ll do some trails, they’ll take a look at existing trails and how to incorporate those in with more maintained trails.”

This will be the first time ideas will be put to paper since annexation discussions began earlier this year. In addition to RDG, Carl A. Nelson Associates will be onsite to examine the layouts to see how Shiloh facilities compare to city and state code.
